Mineral exports earned Uganda US$6.6m. in 2002, and the government projected 7.6% growth, to $7.1m., for 2003. Copper, apatite, tungsten, berly, columbo-tantalite, gold, bismuth, phosphate, limestone and tin are amongst the minerals Uganda produces.
Investing in Uganda’s Mineral Sector
Some of the mineral targets being developed for mining and/or processing include the Kasese cobalt processing; Tira gold mine near Busia; Bjordal wolfram mine at Nyamuliro, Kabale; Wampewo tantalite mine, Wakiso; Kisita gold mine near Kyakidu, Mubende, and Namekhara vermiculite mine in Bukusu, Mbale.

In recent years, the East African country of Uganda was known to produce cobalt, columbium (niobium), gold, iron ore, steel, tantalum, tin, and tungsten. Uganda also has produced such industrial minerals as gypsum, kaolin and other clays, lime, phosphate rock, salt, and vermiculite, and such building materials as cement, limestone, and pozzolanic materials.
